Local MP Andrew Snowden recently visited the temporary banking hub in Kirkham, where he experienced the warm welcome and full suite of face-to-face banking services on offer. This shared facility, at the William Segar Hodgson Pavilion on Coronation Road near Morrisons is hosted by Cash Access UK under Link’s community-led Access to Cash initiative. It enables residents and small business owners to withdraw and deposit cash, deposit cheques, open accounts, transfer funds, and meet with advisors from participating banks such as Halifax all in one accessible local site.
“Access to cash is incredibly important not just for people who prefer or depend on notes and coins, but crucially to help our local businesses too,” said Andrew. “A thriving local economy needs cash in circulation: cafés, shops and local businesses rely on it every day. Banking hubs make that happen.”
The temporary Kirkham hub is already showing the demand, thanks to its welcoming staff, rotating bank representation, and full-service counter. Permanent premises are in the pipeline, and equally good news for Fylde, a banking hub is also coming to St Annes, ensuring even more residents and businesses have needed access to cash and in-person banking.
That sentiment is backed by Cash Access UK CEO Gareth Oakley:
“We’re very proud of the difference banking hubs are making… They all provide easy access to cash and banking services and a warm and welcoming customer experience.”
Andrew Snowden adds:
“Seeing the hub in action here in Kirkham, and knowing St Annes is next, shows this isn’t a one-off. It’s part of a forward-thinking model for how we maintain essential services in our towns. This is more than just convenience, its practical infrastructure supporting the flow of money through local shops, markets, charities, and services. It helps keep footfall high, supports the local economy, and ensures everyone, regardless of ability or banking preference, can manage their money with dignity.”
