Fylde MP Andrew Snowden has welcomed long-overdue action to resurface The Crescent in St Annes, following months of sustained pressure and growing concern from local residents about the dangerous state of the road.
The Crescent was highlighted as one of the worst affected streets in Fylde after Andrew’s call for residents to report problem roads, which saw more than 500 people come forward. The road has been repeatedly raised with Lancashire County Council as part of that campaign.
In recent weeks, the situation has become so severe that a traffic cone has been thrown into one of the deep potholes in an attempt to warn drivers. Motorists are now being forced to swerve across the road to avoid damage, creating a serious safety risk.
Lancashire County Council has now confirmed a temporary road closure will be in place on St Annes Road West and The Crescent from Monday 1 June 2026 until Monday 8 June 2026 to enable resurfacing works to take place.
Andrew Snowden MP said:
“The state of The Crescent has been completely unacceptable. It’s become so dangerous that residents have had to drop a traffic cone into one of the holes just to stop drivers hitting it. You’ve now got cars swerving all over the place to avoid the damage. It’s not just frustrating, it’s a real safety issue.
“I’ve been raising this for months, alongside dozens of other roads across Fylde. So while I welcome the fact they’ve finally decided to act, it should never have taken this long.”
County Councillor for St Annes South, Steve Rigby, added:
“This is frankly embarrassing. It says everything that some of the worst potholes are right outside Reform’s own office. They can see the problem every single day, and yet nothing was done until our MP and local residents forced the issue.
“Reform made big promises at the election, they said they would fix every pothole and cut council tax. They’ve done neither. In fact, council tax has gone up and the condition of our roads has got worse than ever.
“People don’t want excuses, they want action. And we shouldn’t have to fight this hard just to get a road repaired.”
Fylde's MP has confirmed he will continue to press Lancashire County Council to deliver repairs across the full list of roads submitted as part of his campaign earlier this year.
