Andrew Snowden, Member of Parliament for Fylde, has been promoted to Shadow Minister of State for Work and Pensions as part of Kemi Badenoch’s Shadow Cabinet reshuffle.
The appointment represents a significant promotion for the Fylde MP, who previously served as an Opposition Whip. In his new role, Andrew will help lead the Conservative Party’s work to bring the rising benefits bill under control and support more people back into employment.
Following his appointment, Andrew Snowden MP said:
“I am delighted to have been appointed Shadow Minister of State in the Department for Work and Pensions.
“The mission Kemi has set us is clear: cut the benefits bill and get Britain working.
“Under Labour, welfare spending is continuing to spiral while too many people who could work are being left trapped outside the workforce. Even today, Andy Burnham claimed he would cut the benefits bill by spending even more money. It is increasingly clear that Labour has become the Welfare Party.
“Britain needs a welfare system that provides genuine support for those who cannot work, while helping and expecting those who can work to get back into employment. It must be fair to those who need support, but also fair to the millions of people who work hard and pay into the system.
“I am ready to get stuck into this new role and help deliver the Conservative plan to control benefits spending, reward work and get Britain working again.
“It is a real privilege to take on this important national responsibility, and I will continue working just as hard for residents across Fylde.”
